SFWJ has held the last selection committee for the 19th Nihon SF Taisho Award(organized by SFWJ, sponsored by Tokuma Shoten) on November 20 at Shinjuku Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo, and the following title was selected as the prizewinner. Prizegiving ceremony is scheduled on Feburary 26, 1999.

• "BRAIN VALLEY," a novel written by Sena Hideaki, published from Kadokawa Shoten.

Special Award was decided to be presented to the following person/project for their contribution to the promotion of SF.

• Mr. Hoshi Shin'ichi, honorary member of SFWJ
• "NHK Ningen Daigaku(Human University): Uchuu wo Kuusoo shitekita Hitobito(Those who have been imagined the Universe)" by NHK
• "Igyo(Deformed) Collection Series" edited by Inoue Masahiko, published from Kouseidou Shuppan
